Professor Stephen Heppell

The Executive Chairman of the Learning Possibilities Group and LP+, Stephen is widely recognised as a leading authority on education for the 21st Century, and has been variously described as:

  • "The man who is single-handedly doing more than any other to enlighten government thinking on the use of computers in schools" (The Times of London)
  • Having "unique foresight" and "...helping to bring ordinary people into the Internet age" (Wall Street Journal)
  • "The most influential academic of recent years in the field of technology and education" (UK Government’s Department for Children, Schools and Families, formerly the Department for Education and Science)
  • "The leading on-line education guru" (Channel 4 TV, UK)
  • "Europe's leading online education expert" (Microsoft)

Stephen spent around a quarter of a century building Ultralab, which established an exceptional reputation as a world leading learning technology research centre. He also heads his own policy, research and practice consultancy, Heppell.net. With offices in the UK and the USA, Heppel.net is at the heart of a network of innovative collaborators worldwide.

Having almost 30 years of experience in consulting and research on using ICT to transform education, Stephen acts as an advisor to governments throughout the developed and developing world. He also chairs or sits on many national and international boards and committees, as well as on UNESCO groups in Europe and Southeast Asia.

Despite this, he still finds time to act as a teaching professor with a number of visiting chairs. He continues to nurture PhD students, many of whom themselves are now transforming education around the world through the use of ICT.
